Samos Island Vacation Homes

 

The Crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and green mountains of Samos Greece make it easy to understand why people from all over the world are wanting to buy real estate on this Greek Island. The slow paced lifestyle and beautiful oceanfront views are simply too appealing to pass up. On the Island of Samos, which hasn't yet fully fallen prey to the tourism trap, property values are still reasonable. Samos is one the most beautiful islands of Greece. Located within a mile of the Turkish shore, it's fast becoming a getaway, due to the new ferry that runs from Turkey to Samos.

 

The population of Samos island is about 34,000 and is comprised of 4 municipalities, Karlovasi,Vathi, Pythagoreio and Marathokampos.The capital is Samos Town.  

Samos island's economy now depends mainly on the tourist industry which has been growing steadily since the early 1980s. Yet it's charm hasnt been compromised. The main agricultural products include grapes, olive oil, olives, dried figs, honey, citrus fruits, and almonds. The Muscat Grape is the main crop used in wine production. Samian wines have won several international and domestic awards. Samos is known for its folk art, pottery, ceramics, rugs, bags made of colorful goat wool and woven fabrics with beautiful designs which are made on local looms.

Samos is a hilly island. It has two mountains...one of which is the highest in the Aegean.

      The island does not have a specific traditional architecture, per se. It's a blend of neoclassical mansions, Venetian buildings, whitewashed houses and Byzantine churches. The narrow stairs and streets are painted in blue and white as are some of the homes. The walls of some houses are decorated with paintings. Narrow streets wind around all types of buildings, adding a cozy touch to the scenery. In the church of Ai-Yiannis, you will see marvelous rare frescoes.
